Psycho Sprinting!

Today was my fartlek day but I have deemed it "psycho sprinting!"  It's like schizophrenic running.  LOL!  One minute you're cruising along really slow and then all of a sudden, you're going full-out!  Then you cool down and do it all over again.  Very random but kinda fun!  Today I think I finally realized what this weekly training run is for.  It's a mental thing.  I hadn't gotten to that point yet on one of these runs but today I ran it hard.  And I think the purpose is to get me mentally tougher.  I was beat today by mile 4 and while I was doing the slow part of the run, I was thinking how tired I was but then I had to psych myself into another sprint.  And I felt really good when it was over.  :)  The reward? ... An ice cold blue Gatorade!!!  YUM!


Split times are wacky because I was going fast and slow but they average out well.  Today's were: 8:59, 8:45, 8:59, 9:05, 8:53, 8:22 (8:51 average).  I had to stop for a minute at the beginning of the 4th mile.  My left thigh was giving out on me and I thought I was gonna fall.  Guess I just had a cramp or something.  Rubbed it out and was good as new.  Other than that, no real pains except the blister on my left foot.  Ugh!  Go away!!!

Tomorrow is a steady, easy 4 miles.  I love Saturdays!
